My Career

2007 Onwards: Key 103 Manchester

I joined Key 103 in January 2007 to present the mid morning show for 3 very successful years which included being part of the team to win a Gold Sony Award (Radio’s Oscars) for station of the year in 2008 before being asked to take on a new challenge in the form of the late show from January 2010

2005 - 2006: 96 Trent FM Nottingham

A move across town to do afternoons came about when Luis Clark became the PD at Trent and I knew I’d end up on the station as Luis had previously offered me a number of jobs at Invicta FM back in the late 90’s all of which I’d turned down!

2000-2005: 106 Century FM Nottingham

I returned to the UK from Germany to joined Century for the relaunch of the station under ownership of Capital Radio PLC, at the time this was the only group in the UK I wanted to work for and what a great 5 years it proved to be presenting firstly mid mornings then afternoons and finally drivetime

1998-2000: BFBS Germany

After being in the lovely position of having 3 contract offers on the table from B97, Invicta FM (a different boss to Luis - see above) and BFBS I decided to take time out of UK Radio and moved to a little town called Herford about 70km from Hanover to present drivetime before moving to the breakfast show after a few months. During my time with ‘Forces Radio’ I did a 3 month detachment to Kosovo and gained at Nato medal for this work

1997-1998: B97 Chiltern FM Bedford

Derek Flood the PC at the time gave me a call after I’d had a number of ‘chats’ with other GWR Group owned stations and offered me the breakfast show which seemed like a logical move to make. I describe the whole experience as an interesting one but I learnt loads from Derek and his collection of C90 Chrome tapes!

1995-1997: Fox FM Oxford

My 2nd station move was a dream come true as I’d listened to Fox FM many times travelling to see my sister in Southampton at Uni and always thought one day I’d like to work at that station. In 1995 Phil Angel gave me that chance so I took over the drivetime show for 2 happy years working with Freddie the Fox and the team at Brush House (I kid you not)

1989-1995: Beacon Radio / WABC Wolverhampton

I spent my teenage years in Wolverhampton, the paper round I had used to mean I got to drop the Express & Star off at Beacon and I guess that’s where the radio seed was sewn? At that point I used to listen to the radio but didn’t understand how it worked but knew I wanted to be part of the industry and through a friend I got a lucky break, and became a tech-op at the station for 2 years before Pete Wagstaff got desperate and stuck me on the air one night from 2am-6am, that show led to a weekend breakfast show, weekday overnights and then finally for around 3 years the drivetime show on WABC playing oldies but learning how to do radio without the pressure the ‘FM’ guys had on them
